If you notice your forehead becoming swollen and suffering from fever, look for Acetaminophen (Tylenol) or Ibuprofen (Advil) to reduce the temperature.
However, if your fever has reached 38.3degC (101degF) or less, do not be in a rush to let it run its course. If you’re not comfortable, however, you’re ready to do something about it, have a look at these suggestions for solutions at home that will help to put out the fire.
Bathe in warm water. The temperature will be calm when you’re suffering from a feverish illness, and the bath will help reduce your body’s temperature lower.
Don’t attempt to bring a temperature down quickly by dipping your body into cold water. This method sends blood flowing to organs in your body and is the way your body protects itself from cold. As a result, your body’s interior is warming up and does not cool down.
Take a bath with a sponge. The act of sponging areas with high heat, such as your groin, armpits, and your arms with cool water, could help lower your temperature since it evaporates.
If you’re not bathing, lay a clean, damp washcloth on your forehead and lower back of the neck.
Drink a yarrow tea. The herb helps open your pores, triggering sweating that’s believed to bring a fever closer to its conclusion. Take a tablespoon of the herb in one cup of boiling water for about 10 minutes. Allow cooling. Drink one or two cups until you feel sweaty.
Another herb, elderflower, aids in sweating. It’s also beneficial for other ailments related to colds and flu, such as excess mucus production. To make tea with elderflowers:
Take a sip of ginger tea hot that also causes sweating. For making the tea, you need to steep half a teaspoon of crushed ginger root with 1 cup boiling water. Strain and take a sip.
Willow bark is a natural substitute for Aspirin and may help alleviate headaches. Use it in tincture form, in powdered form, or as tea.
Sprinkle cayenne pepper over your meals when you’re suffering from the symptoms of fever. One of the main ingredients is capsaicin, a swelteringly hot substance found inside hot chili peppers. Cayenne causes sweating and boosts blood circulation.
You can try wet-sock therapy as a standard home treatment for fever. First, warm your feet in hot water. Then, soak a thin piece of cotton socks with cold water, wring them out, then slip them on before going to bed. Finally, place a pair of dry wool socks on top of the wet socks. This can help ease a fever by drawing blood to your feet, which significantly improves blood circulation.
Another method to draw blood to your feet is by using the use of a mustard footbath. In a basin big enough to fit your feet, add 2 tablespoons of mustard to 4 cups hot water. Let it soak for a few minutes.
One of the traditional remedies to treat fever involves soaking a towel in cold water and wrapping you in. Nowadays, doctors recommend not to lower the body temperature too rapidly and, if you decide to try this treatment, you should apply slightly cool, but not cold water. The wet sheet should be covered with an enormous blanket or towel and then lay down for approximately 15 minutes. Unwrap yourself as the sheet begins to warm.
If you suffer from fever, it’s simple to dehydrate. Drink between 8 and 12 glasses of water every day to keep your urine appear pale. Drinking a sports drink such as Gatorade is also a good option. It doesn’t just replace the lost fluids due to dehydration, but it also replaces minerals lost.
However, it’s not always easy to tell when you’re dehydrated, and you should take note of the subtle signs that you’re dehydrated.
Orange juice and other juices from fruits high in vitamin C are excellent options, as vitamin C helps strengthen your body’s immune system in fighting off infections.
Excellent grapes are hydrating, and they are a delicious treat.
